Sunset to Sunrise, Grand Canyon Style

My journal starts off with pages full of dividing lines. Slowly I fill it up one word at a time with the things on my mind.

Like the Grand Canyon, it is just a space divided by one line that streams water constantly.
They both give you inspiration, clarity, and therapy for the mind, body, and soul.

As I arrived there, the sun was setting and the air temperature somewhere around forty. As much as I wanted to stare I knew I needed to find where I was going to sleep.

The Honda pulled off the asphalt and down a fire road. The spot I chose was open and clean, so I set up a chair and the stove. By the pictures I was not yet vegetarian and went for the turkey/avo sandwich paired with a side of rice. It was enough to get through the cold night.

In the dark I got out of my car to pee and blurry eyed I jumped when I saw a truck parked 15 feet away from me. Creeped out I headed for the road and a lookout spot to watch the sun come up. Two blankets deep, I found a slice of paradise on the rocks...then sat and waited.

The stream of neon yellow slowly appeared then some pink and then baby blue. At this time the canyon has a green/blue hue but as it warms up the red rock comes through.

The more bright it gets, the more people start finding their way to this spot so I leave and tried to find some better tranquility

Farther down I spot no cars and park, run to the side and then abruptly stop! There is huge elk right over the ledge. Like in the movies- I tippy toe slowly away.

Happy with the views I go for a little breakfast and then decide next time I come to stay for a while. Maybe even hike it rim to rim. Until then I try to fill this journal from beginning to end.
