A step back in Popoyo

I should be writing about Popoyo- Is all that has been going through my mind.  Popoyo, Nicaragua  is a laid-back spot so it should be easy to write about.
Kind of.

It is such a simple place I could list the things about it- so I will do that.

Protected pools in Popoyo Rock

  • You have to take a dirt road for about 40 minutes just to get there.
  • It's easier to hitch-hike then wait for public transportation.
  • Get ready to walk a lot.
  • I hope you like the beach, because that is all there is
  • There is one store for groceries.
  • There is a handful of places to stay and are usually booked out completely.
  • I can count the restaurants on one hand.

But...

  • The waves are always pumping- home to one of Nicaragua's biggest wave.
  • Tons of really good surfers
  • Some of the best sunsets I have ever seen
  • Want to swim in the ocean and feel like you are alone - go here
  • Finish a book
  • Eat fresh fish
  • Do yoga on a rock in the ocean

I did yoga on this rock

So if the bottom list outweighs your concerns for the top then I recommend this place for you.

Magnific Rock Hostel, Aussie owned

From Rivas, share a cab going to San Juan Del Sur but let them know you want to go to Popoyo. It should only cost you $20 max. I stayed at Magnific Rock Hostel, which was nice and brand new for $20 bucks a night. However, I think there are better values located across the Nagualapa River.
