Within the last 6 months I have had a lot of instances that have made me pause and really reflect on where I want to be in the future. I lost two grandparents who were my mother's parents. They both had fulfilling lives, my grandmother Maddy had 6 kids while my grandfather Jim worked 30 years as an Aerospace Engineer. Jim traveled all his life, in wars, in his career, and as an adult with Maddy.
They went all over the world. Looking back on their sense of adventure sparked mine.
I visit three unique and beautiful cities this weekend. The adventure started on Sunday bright and early. I took a drive down the I-5 to the San Diego area. There I have family, the Canales's, who have lived there for about 25 years.
I got to spend most of my time with my cousin Kori who also has the adventure bug like me. She is a senior and high school and is trying to become a doctor that travels the world. Ambitious girl!
On Sunday she took me on a coast cruise starting in the beautiful hills of La Jolla, CA.
The city of La Jolla is known for it's beauty but with that comes tons of tourists. The cove is the best spot to get in on the atmosphere. Tons of cafes line the coast, very European style, love the architecture of the homes, each one unique but meshing together collectively. Passing through Pacific Beach and then stopping in Mission Beach.
Riding our bikes along the boardwalk, we passed all kinds of cool spots.
Top 5 Spots:
1. Dirty Birds Bar - PB
2. Lahaina Beach House- PB
3. PB Shore Club
4. Wave House- Mission
5. Belmont Park- Mission

Aztec Art in Chula Vista, Ca |
Monday morning started with home cooked breakfast and coffee with Uncle Jimmy and then soon me and Kori were back on our way to having a good time. She took me to the GasLamp district in Downtown San Diego. Downtown reminded me of a cleaner and less populated Los Angeles. The vibe seemed a little more friendly and open. High class patio Bistros line the streets. Each one possessing some unique landscaping or exterior facade. As we passed the Famous Trolley we decided to visit her favorite beach town known as Coronado.
A quick detour through Chula Vista and we were on our way over the towering CA-75 Coronado Bridge.
Coronado Island On your way over the bridge you see boats anchored next to shore, skinny strands of beach and beautiful ocean front homes. The neighborhoods possess a charm of tranquility. The town circle is filled with people though. They have cafes, trendy restaurants and a variety of shops. My favorite shop is Studio 1220. The city gives off an East coast vibe of leisure. We stop and eat at Costa Azul Cantina, the service and the food is wonderful. I definitely recommend the pulled pork sandwich. The only thing I could ask for is the sun to pop out but I decide it's time to make my way back north up the coast. Only the way home I stop and visit my roommate in her hometown of Laguna Niguel, Calif. Laguna Niguel sits in between Laguna Beach and Dana Point. The street names all "something" Lantern.
Takes me to various neighborhoods with multi million dollar homes.
This city seems to have a more tropical climate than other beach cities.
The water has a caribbean blue hue and luscious green trees.
The people are wild and beautiful.
And the restaurants don't have TVs in them, classy.
After a wonderful visit I make it home to Long Beach, Calif. My trip reminds me that there is a lot of world to see but for now enjoy the surroundings around me because they are treasures too.
